Protocols signed for the creation of Competence Centers in UAveiro, UTAD and UBI

Taking into account the objectives outlined in the Advanced Computing Portugal 2030 strategy, the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) signed in November cooperation protocols with Universidade de Aveiro, Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and Universidade da Beira do Interior for the creation of three Advanced Computing Competence Centers.

The initiative, which runs in parallel with the upgrade of internal networks of the RTCS 100 project, also foresees the opening of three more centers located at the University of Algarve, Lisbon and Porto until 2021.

Equipped with state-of-the-art visualization software and hardware, the centers, which are scheduled to be installed in the first half of next year, aim at strengthening the capacity of resources, accesses and national scientific production in the field of advanced digital skills, AI and big data, allowing greater approximation by research groups and companies.

Advanced Computing Portugal 2030 events

Advanced Computing Portugal 2030 took place last October 23rd, at the Azurém campus, at the University of Minho in Guimarães for the presentation of Deucalion, the supercomputer that complements the national strategy of advanced computing, and which joins BOB, the supercomputer installed in 2019, at the Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC).

Under the motto “Progress achieved and new challenges”, the session also highlighted the progress achieved in advanced computing and also the needs of the Portuguese scientific and technological community among current and potential future users of the Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC).
