Additional information

THE RNCA – National Advanced Computing Network – is managed by Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (FCT), designed to provide advanced computing services to the research, technology, and innovation communities. It was created by the Digital Skills Initiative Portugal INCoDe.2030, through Council of Ministers resolution 26/2018. It was integrated into the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest (RNIE) in April 2019 through Order No. 4157/2019 of the Office of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

The essential components of the RNCA are:

COs provide the user community with advanced computing services as well as the corresponding technical support services, with a set of minimum requirements that they must meet, particularly in terms of technological capacity.

The CCs guarantee the user community, in a proximity logic, support functions for the effective and efficient application of advanced computing resources, namely technical support services, information visualization, training, advice and support for program development.

INCA intends to survey national needs in scientific computing resources and the solutions to be adopted to meet these needs.

The information collected by INCA will be used to inform about developments in the National Advanced Computing Network, which brings together a set of important computing resources nationwide, as well as for reviewing the National Strategy for Advanced Computing.2023. to be carried out in 2023.

In the context of this survey, the term “Advanced Computing” refers to the various high-performance computational models used to solve problems of high complexity and cost.

The FCT is responsible for carrying out the Survey, under the scope of Paragraph (t) of Decree Law 55/2013 [1], its operation being carried out in partnership with the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC) and the National Innovation Agency (ANI).

This survey is directed at the National Science and Technology System, evaluated and financed by the FCT, which presents itself as a fundamental pillar in the consolidation of the modern and competitive scientific system – as it encompasses all scientific domains integrated by entities, structures and networks dedicated to the production, dissemination and transmission of knowledge.

The deadline for completing this survey is August 11, 2023.

All data collected will be under the responsibility of the National Advanced Computing Network.

It is estimated that completing this survey will take between 10 and 15 minutes.
