HPCvLAB @ Deucalion and CNCA
HPC Virtual Lab
The High Performance Computing Virtual Laboratory – HPCvLAB – provides a package of HPC computing resources for training potential future users and thus developing their skills and experience in high-performance parallel computing.
This initiative uses resources from Deucalion and CNCA – National Center for Advanced Computing.
Interested parties should contact computacao-avancada@fccn.pt to request free access to HPC resources, receiving the necessary support to learn how to use and take advantage of these resources. This initiative is aligned with the mission of the FCCN Advanced Computing Service – FCT Digital Services, the CNCA, and the EuroCC2 project.
How it works: Each HPCvLAB account receives an initial resource allocation, an initial "sandbox" with 100,000 CPU core hours, 1,000 GPU hours, and 10 TB of disk space on an HPC platform. Each HPCvLAB appoints a quota manager and users. Each user will be allocated a portion of these resources. Depending on machine availability and efficient use of these resources, the resource quota allocated to each HPCvLAB may be increased.
Objectives and recipients of HPCvLAB :
- Promote the objectives of the Advanced Computing Service, CNCA or EuroCC2 project, in promoting HPC training at local/regional level for the research, science, education, industry and public administration sectors.
- Support users with no prior HPC experience, such as undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students.
- Test HPC tools in pilot projects in the industry and public administration sectors at local/regional level, aligned with the objectives of the EuroCC project.
- Support teachers in master's and doctoral courses taught at HEIs in Portugal who request resources to teach and introduce HPC into their curricular units.
