EuroCC Project – NCC Portugal

The EuroCC (National Competence Center) project was created to promote knowledge in high-performance computing (HPC) and its opportunities in Europe. The first phase of this project ran from 2020 to 2022, and now includes Phase 2 through 2026 and Phase 3 through 2029.

With funding from the European HPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC-JU), EuroCC and CASTIEL (Coordination and Support for National Competence Centers at European level) are building a European network of HPC competence centers. These projects will address existing HPC skills gaps, fostering cooperation and the implementation of best practices across Europe.

Visit the EuroCC Portugal page and learn about its core competencies, use cases, resources, events, and national and international training.

BSC AI Factory Project

AI factories bring together national and European Union (EU) resources in a collaborative effort across several European countries.

The EuroHPC AI Factories initiative is designed to create a robust and interconnected network of AI centers. These centers, one of which is based in Portugal, aim to serve as one-stop shops for comprehensive support for start-ups, SMEs, and researchers, including access to AI-optimized high-performance computing (HPC) resources, training, and specialized technical expertise.

The system installed at the AI Factory will develop and operate an Artificial Intelligence-enabled computing infrastructure. It will serve the European Union's AI innovation ecosystem, enabling the use of Artificial Intelligence by Portuguese businesses, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), public administration entities, and national researchers in both academic and non-academic contexts.

These new computing resources will join the Deucalion and MareNostrum 5 supercomputers currently made available by the FCT to the national community.

Portuguese participation in BSC AI Factory It is led by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), following the guidelines of the Portuguese government, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Youth and Modernization.
